Phillippe Coutinho belts Liverpool into top 4 and dents Manchester City’s title hopes

Phillippe Coutinho scored his second wonder goal in seven days as Liverpool stretched their unbeaten run in the Premier League to 11 matches with a 2-1 win over Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday.

Eleven months ago, the corresponding fixture last season was a battle between two teams slugging it out for the title.

Even back then, it was the Brazilian Coutinho’s strike that decided a humdinger at Anfield as City fought back from two goals down, only to concede the winner with 12 minutes to go.

The situation in terms of the league table wasn’t so similar prior to the start of Sunday’s game.

Liverpool were in sixth position and involved in the scrap for Champions League football with Arsenal, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Southampton, while City were still in the title race, but five points behind leaders Chelsea.

Pitt-Greensburg Women’s Basketball falls in AMCC Finals

The 3 Pitt-Greensburg women’s basketball team’s title run came up a little short on Saturday after falling to the 1 seeded Redhawks of La Roche College, 73-55 in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference tournament finals.

The Bobcats close the season with an 18-10 record as La Roche improves to 22-5 and earns the conference’s automatic bid to the Division III NCAA Tournament.

After trading baskets and the lead on four occasion in the opening minutes of Saturday’s finals, Pitt-Greensburg would post the games first run. Trailing 6-5 at the 16:58 mark, the Bobcats would outscore the Redhawks 17-6 to build a 22-12 advantage with 8:54 remaining in the half. La Roche would cut into the lead over the next eight minutes and regain it, 29-28 with :50 left. The Redhawks would add one more basket before the half and take a 31-28 lead into the break.
